Benny Napoleon Speaks on Mental Health Month
Former Detroit Police Chief Helping Detroit Central City CMH
Detroit, MI - April 12, 2009 - Detroit Central City Community Mental Health, Inc. (DCC) and former Detroit Chief of Police Benny Napoleon, have teamed up to get the word out about DCC and its role in providing mental health and substance abuse services in the city. Mr. Napoleon, now Wayne County Assistant CEO, will record a public service announcement to air this May, which is national Mental Health Month. The message is designed to raise awareness about the agency and its part in the broader Wayne County mental health network.
Having been Chief of Police and a long-time public servant, Napoleon understands the critical nature of the services provided by DCC and their sister agencies. "Not many people are aware that a large percentage of our homeless citizens suffer from some form of mental illness," notes Napoleon. "Detroit Central City is a key part of the long term solution to homelessness," he continued.
DCC President and CEO Irva Faber-Bermudez is delighted to have support from such a highly recognized public figure. "We are so fortunate that Mr. Napoleon not only understands our mission, but is willing to give us his time and support," she remarked.
